At the Broadmeadows Army Training Camp in the First World War

I posted a photo in my blog of my grandfather and other army recruits at the training camp. The photo was taken in about July 1915.

My biggest brick wall smashed: John SCOTT was really John CONACHER

For over 25 years I had been searching for the origins of my 2nd great grandfather, John SCOTT who married Susan ASHMORE at Creswick in 1857.

A surprise phone call from a relative a few weeks ago has helped me smash my biggest genealogical brick wall. She had found some old letters dating back to the 1850's from SCOTT relatives in Scotland. I have written about how I eventually found this family in a blog article.

My Cornish ancestors knew John Wesley

After researching my family history for about thirty years I have not found any ancestors who could be described as famous - although some are rather infamous! It was therefore pleasing to find that two of my Cornish ancestors knew a famous person, John Wesley, who, with his brother Charles and others, founded the Methodist movement.
